Weekend Festivities

erratic_prophet | 02 April, 2006 19:38

This weekend didn't turn out like I expected it to. I'd been looking forward to seeing my family for over a month and going to my uncle's wedding. I jumped through hoops and turned contortionist in order to get my schedule in order. Then I got a phone call from my cousin T on Thursday evening...

Me: "So where are you?"

T: "Umm.. Well.. Home."

Me: "What?!"

And then it came out. My aunt had taken a fall and badly fractured her hip and broke her kneecap. She was heading into surgery when T had called. So, of course, I was sad, but understanding. We're making plans to meet up over the summer.

At least I had the wedding to look forward to. And I did enjoy that very much. I sat at the table with my younger cousins and my kids. Yes, I got stuck at the kiddie table, folks. But since I like my baby cousins, it was fun. And I spent half of the time circulating anyway, so it's not like I was stuck. At least I didn't have to share either of my wine carafes with the other occupants..

The wedding was kept very small. Only very close friends-- who really were more like family than friends, I've known some most of my life-- and family were invited. And the food was fantastic. Bruschetta, penne vodka, salad, a choice of fish or chicken or veal, and cake and cookies. The combination of good food, old friends and family, and the occasion led to some drunken revelry-- which I wish I had videotaped like some others had. All in all, I had a blast, so all of the preparation for it was well worth it.

It's a shame that some won't remember it.

Yay for kiddie cousins!
I'm glad you enjoyed the wedding.
Sorry about your aunt's fracture. Hope she recovers soon and well.
How the kids doing? And your mom? Did they all have fun at the wedding as well?

Michelle- Thank you. We're all keeping our fingers crossed on my aunt's behalf.

I wore the fabulous grey pants along with a black v-neck top and black silk cardigan with pearl buttons, and finished it off with black peep-toe pumps. I'm currently in the process of returning uber-sexy strappy silver shoes because I've decided that, indeed, they really are just too small.

Dee- Thank you for the well wishes.

The kids had a blast at the wedding. Everyone kept telling them how cute, wonderful, brilliant, etc. they were/are. They ate that up! Mom had fun as well. We were so busy catching up with old friends the whole night that it flew by quicker than we wanted. I'm looking for another excuse for a huge get-together.
